Investment of more than 1 billion euros

Project for the future

The expanded Campus Bielefeld is due to be completed by 2025 with a planned investment volume of more than 1 billion euros.

Bielefeld is getting ready for the future – together with the University of Bielefeld and Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences this city in East Westphalia is gearing up to meet growing international demand for research, teaching and study.

The new Campus Bielefeld is envisaged as a modern academic centre offering top-class infrastructure for an optimum research and study environment. The developer, planner, client and investor behind the construction work at Campus Bielefeld is the Bielefeld branch of Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW (BLB NRW).

Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, Forschungsbau Interaktive Intelligente Systeme and the new University of Bielefeld building

Three construction projects will be completed by the end of 2013. Teaching in the new Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences building on Campus North is due to start in the winter semester 2013/2014. Forschungsbau Interaktive Intelligente Systeme on Campus North has already been completed in late 2012. The new replacement building on the present university site, Campus South, will be ready for use by the autumn of 2013. This building will also house a shared canteen run by Bielefeld student welfare services for both the University and the University of Applied Sciences.

The 40-year-old main university building is to be modernised in six phases of construction starting in 2014. Preparations and planning for this huge project are already in full swing.

One of Germany's most modern higher education locations
The new Campus Bielefeld will provide space for other research institutions and research and development centres and will be one of the most modern higher education locations in Germany when it is completed in 2025. The area around the University and University of Applied Sciences is set to evolve into a lively district linked together by green spaces, where people from all over the world will live and work. The universities and colleges are not the only ones to benefit from the new campus. As a centre of expertise it will revitalise the city of Bielefeld and the entire East Westphalia-Lippe region.
