Investment of more than 1 billion euros

Project for the future

The expanded Campus Bielefeld is due to be completed by 2025 at a planned investment volume of more than 1 billion euros. 2010 was the start of three major construction projects.

Bielefeld is getting ready for the future – together with the University of Bielefeld and Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, this city in Eastern Westphalia is gearing up to meet growing international demand for research, teaching and study.

The new Campus Bielefeld is envisaged as a modern academic centre offering top-class infrastructure for an optimum research and study environment. The developer, planner, client and investor behind the construction work at Campus Bielefeld is the Bielefeld branch of Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW (BLB).

Work starts on Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, Forschungsbau Interaktive Intelligente Systeme and replacement building
Three construction projects got under way in 2010: the new Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences building at Campus North, Forschungsbau Interaktive Intelligente Systeme at Campus North and the Universitätsstraße replacement building on the present university site, Campus South. This building will also house a shared canteen run by Bielefeld student welfare services for University and University of Applied Sciences students.

The 40-year-old main university building is to be completely renovated and modernised in six phases of construction starting in 2013.

One of Germany’s most modern higher education locations
The new Campus Bielefeld will provide space for other research institutions and research and development centres and will be one of the most modern higher education locations in Germany when completed in 2025. The area around the University and University of Applied Sciences is set to evolve into a lively district linked together by green spaces, where people from all over the world will live and work. The universities and colleges are not the only ones to benefit from the new campus. As a centre of expertise it will revitalise the city of Bielefeld and the entire East Westphalia-Lippe region.
